Articles: Platinum: Platinum Stamping
While gold standards are graded by karats where 24k = 100%, the platinum grade is based on parts per thousand, where 1000 parts = 100%.
All platinum metals are derived from this standard. The two most popular platinum metals found in the US are 95% Platinum.
As the percentage indicates, platinum is 950 parts per 1000 and 50 parts other metals.
Commonly used marks are: Platinum, Plat, Pt, Pt950, 950Pt, 950Plat and Plat950.
90% Platinum:
This alloy is 900 parts per 1000 and 100 part other metals. Commonly used marks are: 900Pt, Pt900, and 900Plat.
Normally platinum is alloyed with copper, iridium, palladium, tungsten, gallium cobalt, ruthenium or indium.
It is also used in an alloy form with osmium, rhodium or titanium. But this is very uncommon.
