Articles: Gold Alloy: Gold Jewelry/Ornaments costing
The value of jewelry is based on four factors:
- Its karat value (level of purity)
- Weight in grams (total weight of gold in the jewelry)
- Design
- Craftsmanship.
It is obvious that the weight and karat age will tell you how much gold is in n ornament, but there are also other factors, which are very important in the final price of the jewelry.
They are the ornaments craftsmanship and design. The weight and carat can make the jewelry only that valuable, while intricate work and classy design make the piece much more dearer.
So the value of the jewelry is a total on the four factors mentioned above. And each piece has its own beauty and can last you for generations to come.
White Gold
White gold nothing else but yellow gold with some alloy added to it. The alloys usually are white metals such as silver, nickel and palladium. The different karatage for white gold is 18k, 14k, 9k or any other karat.
Yellow gold 18k is made by mixing 75% gold with 25% other metals such as copper and zinc. Similarly 18k white gold is made by mixing 75% gold with 25% other metals such as silver, nickel and palladium.
So the amount of gold is the same for all different colors of 18k but the alloy added is different so as to get the required color.
Platinum
The Indians of South America first used platinum well before the fifteenth century. They were not able to melt it as it has a very high melting point, but developed a technique for sintering it with gold to produce artifacts.
